· A new COVID -19 variant has recently been discovered named Omicron. This adaptation appears to be highly contagious and at this time it is unclear how much this will impact of the health of the world population as this contagion spreads. How will this new variant change the struggling supply chain?
· Some countries have already announced that they are extending existing lock downs as well as to postpone planned scheduled reopenings. Other countries have instituted travel bans that will undoubtably affect the flow of employees to manufacturing facilities. Even feeder vessel service has been limited in China in response to this new strand to limit contact with believed hot spots in the country.
· How will this impact the US? With limited feeder vessel service and possible manufacturing limitations in other countries this adds an additional strain on the current crunch felt in the supply chain. Also if the US must enter a shut down this will impact the already congested port system with cargo dwell times increasing most likely once again.
